Path of Exile's pinnacle bosses are the Shaper, Elder, Uber Elder, Sirus, the Maven, the Searing Exarch and the Eater of Worlds, plus league bosses. You unlock each with map fragments or invitations earned on the Atlas, and five uber fragments open the harder version. Beating four of them earns the Voidstones that push your maps to top tier.

What are Path of Exile's pinnacle bosses?

Pinnacle bosses are the end of the Atlas of Worlds progression in Path of Exile. As of October 2026 the live league is 3.29, Curse of the Allflame, which launched on July 24, 2026 and added a new Abyss pinnacle boss on top of the established list. Our Curse of the Allflame league guide covers the rest of the league. Every pinnacle has a normal version and a harder uber version.

Boss How you open it Uber version needs Voidstone?
The Shaper Four Shaper Guardian fragments in the map device 5 Cosmic Fragments Via Uber Elder
The Elder Four Elder Guardian fragments Part of Uber Elder Via Uber Elder
Uber Elder (Shaper and Elder) Fragments dropped by the Shaper and the Elder Uber fragments from the uber fights Yes
Sirus, Awakener of Worlds The four Conquerors' crests Awakening Fragments No
The Maven Maven's Writ, made from 10 Crescent Splinters 5 Reality Fragments Yes
The Searing Exarch Beat the Black Star (Polaric Invitation), then use an Incandescent Invitation 5 Blazing Fragments Yes
The Eater of Worlds Beat the Infinite Hunger (Writhing Invitation), then use a Screaming Invitation 5 Devouring Fragments Yes
Venarius (Cortex) Synthesis memories that lead to the Cortex 5 Synthesizing Fragments No

A party of up to six can enter, there is no weekly lockout and you can farm a boss as often as you have fragments. The new Abyss pinnacle from 3.29 has its own access route through the reworked Abyss mechanic; start with our Path of Exile beginner guide if the Atlas is new to you.

How do you unlock the pinnacle bosses?

From a finished campaign, this is the usual route to every pinnacle:

  1. Finish the ten-act campaign and your Labyrinths. You want your ascendancy points before maps get hard; our Labyrinth guide covers all four labs.
  2. Open the Atlas and complete maps. Each new map completion grows your Atlas and gives Atlas passive points. Push into red maps, tier 11 and up.
  3. Unlock the Searing Exarch and Eater of Worlds. Kirac's questline gives quest versions of the invitations. Later, the boss of the 14th Exarch- or Eater-influenced tier 14+ map drops the Polaric or Writhing Invitation (Black Star or Infinite Hunger), and the 28th drops the Incandescent or Screaming Invitation for the Exarch or the Eater.
  4. Farm Guardian fragments. The Shaper and Elder Guardians drop the fragments for the Shaper and the Elder. Their fragments then open the Uber Elder fight.
  5. Collect Conqueror crests. Kill the four Conquerors as they appear on your Atlas to collect the crests that open Sirus.
  6. Build a Maven's Writ. Collect 10 Crescent Splinters from Maven witness fights and combine them, then open the Maven fight from the map device.
  7. Move to uber versions. The normal pinnacle kills drop uber fragments. Five matching fragments open each uber fight.

Each Voidstone you collect raises the tier of every map that drops, so most players work toward the four Voidstone bosses first. Our Voidstone boost exists for exactly that step.

What do you need before you start?

Pinnacle bosses check your character hard. Before you put a fragment in the map device:

  • Capped elemental resistances (75%) and as much chaos resistance as your build allows.
  • Enough life or energy shield to survive a big hit, plus layers such as armour, evasion, block or spell suppression.
  • Strong single-target damage. Map clear is not the same; test your damage on map bosses first.
  • Good flasks that remove freeze, ignite, bleed and curses.
  • Uber fights need much more. Expect a big jump in damage and defense requirements over the normal version.

In a party, one damage dealer plus an aura or curse support is a common setup for bosses. Stick to tools Grinding Gear Games allows, like the official trade site, Path of Building and community wikis. Never use macros or programs that automate play.

Boss-by-boss overview

The Shaper

A multi-phase fight with beams, slams and a bullet-hell style attack. Learn the big phase-change attacks; that is where most deaths happen.

The Elder and Uber Elder

The Uber Elder fight puts the Shaper and the Elder in one arena. Keep them apart, watch the Elder's ground effects and save mobility for the Shaper's beam.

Sirus, Awakener of Worlds

Sirus clones, beams and a storm that fills the arena. Move constantly, keep damage on Sirus, and learn the final phase where the arena gets crowded.

The Maven

The Maven summons a memory game, then pulls in bosses she has "witnessed". Memorise the pattern, and treat the end of the fight as a damage race.

The Searing Exarch and the Eater of Worlds

The two Eldritch bosses. The Exarch fills the arena with fire and balls of flame; the Eater uses tentacles, slams and pulls. Both reward a build with high single-target damage and fast reactions.

Venarius and the league bosses

Venarius is reached through Synthesis memories. League pinnacles, such as the new 3.29 Abyss boss, change each league, so read the league notes before your first attempt.

What loot and rewards can you get?

Rewards are random, but here is what each kind of fight can give you:

  • Voidstones from the first kill of the four Voidstone bosses. These are guaranteed progression, not random loot.
  • Boss-specific uniques that you might get on any kill, including some of the most valuable items in a league.
  • Uber fragments that drop from normal kills and open the uber version.
  • Currency and fragments worth selling on the trade site if you only want the experience of the fight.

Curse of the Allflame also added Atlas Anomalies: completing a map affected by a Voidstone can occasionally reveal a one-off special area on the Atlas. For the newest balance changes, see our latest patch notes page, and for what comes after 3.29, see coming soon.

Tips to clear pinnacle bosses faster

  1. Do the four Voidstone bosses before farming anything else; every map gets better afterwards.
  2. Run normal versions until you clear them with portals to spare before buying uber fragments.
  3. Watch a short video of each boss and learn the two or three attacks that kill.
  4. Keep a separate flask set for bossing with removal for the boss's main ailment.
  5. Party with a support player for your first kills; it is the cheapest power boost in the game.
  6. Sell uber fragments you are not ready for. They hold value, and you can buy them back later.
  7. Spend Atlas passives on the mechanics that drop the fragments you need.

Path of Exile pinnacle bosses FAQ

Which Path of Exile bosses give Voidstones?

Four pinnacle encounters award Voidstones: the Uber Elder (the joint Shaper and Elder fight), the Maven, the Searing Exarch and the Eater of Worlds. Each one gives a Voidstone on your first kill, and each Voidstone raises the tier of the maps that drop. With all four socketed into your Atlas, your maps reach the top tier, which is why these four are the usual first goal.

How do you unlock uber pinnacle bosses?

Kill the normal version of the boss to collect uber fragments, then put five matching fragments into the map device. For example, the uber Maven uses Reality Fragments, the uber Searing Exarch uses Blazing Fragments and the uber Eater of Worlds uses Devouring Fragments. Uber versions are much harder, so make sure you clear the normal version comfortably first.

What is the easiest pinnacle boss in Path of Exile?

Most players find the Searing Exarch and the Eater of Worlds the most approachable early on, because their normal versions are well tuned for a character in red maps. The Shaper and Elder fights also suit early endgame characters. Sirus and the Maven ask more of your build, and every uber version is a big step up.

How do you get the Searing Exarch invitation?

Kirac's questline gives you a quest version after you beat the Black Star. For tradable copies, run Searing Exarch-influenced tier 14+ maps: the 14th map boss drops a Polaric Invitation for the Black Star, and the 28th drops the Incandescent Invitation for the Exarch. The Eater of Worlds works the same way with Writhing and Screaming Invitations. Atlas passives can shorten the count.

Is there a new pinnacle boss in Curse of the Allflame?

Yes. Path of Exile 3.29, Curse of the Allflame, launched on July 24, 2026 and added a new Abyss pinnacle boss as part of the reworked Abyss mechanic. You reach it through that mechanic rather than a classic fragment set. Grinding Gear Games has not announced an end date for the league yet, so it should stay available for a while.

Is a Path of Exile boss carry safe?

No carry is risk-free. Grinding Gear Games' terms forbid letting others access your account and forbid paid in-game services. Piloted carries, where someone logs in for you, carry the most risk. Self-play, where you play your own character in our party, carries less, and coaching carries none. We never sell currency or items.
