This Path of Exile Labyrinth guide in brief: you earn eight ascendancy points from four Labyrinths, Normal, Cruel, Merciless and Uber, two points each. Complete the six trials for each lab first, then run the maze, avoid the traps and beat Izaro in his final room. Each lab is harder than the last.
Why does the Labyrinth matter?
Ascendancy points are some of the strongest power in Path of Exile. Your ascendancy class, chosen in your first Labyrinth, defines your build, and many builds only come online with all eight points. That makes the Labyrinth one of the first big goals of every league, including Curse of the Allflame as of October 2026.
Where are the trials?
Each Labyrinth needs six trials. For the Normal Labyrinth they are spread through the campaign acts, marked by small trial areas full of traps. Cruel and Merciless trials sit in later acts, while the Uber Labyrinth uses trials found in maps. Completing trials as you level saves a backtracking trip later.
| Labyrinth | Where the trials are | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | Early campaign acts | 2 |
| Cruel | Later campaign acts | 2 |
| Merciless | Late campaign acts | 2 |
| Uber | Maps on the Atlas | 2 |
How do you beat Izaro?
Izaro is the Labyrinth's boss. You meet him several times as you go through the maze, and the final fight happens in his last room. He gains buffs from the room's mechanics, such as statues or fonts, so the safe approach is to deal with those mechanics while avoiding his heavy hits. In Uber Lab he is much more dangerous, so bring good defences and enough damage.
- Learn the room. Each fight has a mechanic that makes Izaro stronger if ignored.
- Watch for slams. Dodge his big attacks rather than tanking them.
- Keep flasks ready. Damage spikes come fast in the final phase.
How do you stay safe from traps?
Traps such as spikes, blades and fire jets do percentage-based damage, which makes them deadly even for strong characters. Move steadily, learn the trap rhythms and avoid fighting monsters on top of trap tiles. Some players use flasks or gear that reduce trap damage for Uber Lab.
In what order should you do the labs?
Do Normal Lab as soon as the trials are done, usually around the middle of the campaign, then Cruel and Merciless as you reach their levels. Uber Lab comes once you are mapping. Getting your first two points early makes the rest of the campaign smoother. For the bigger picture, see our Curse of the Allflame guide.
If you play a slower or more fragile build, consider doing Uber Lab once your defences are solid rather than straight away. Dying in the Labyrinth sends you back to the start, so a few extra levels and better flasks often save more time than they cost.
What else can the Labyrinth give you?
Beyond ascendancy points, the end of the Labyrinth has reward chests and, at higher levels, ways to add special enchantments to some gear. These are nice extras, but the points are the real prize. Treat a lab as done the moment you have its two points unless you are specifically farming those extras.

PoE 1 FAQ
How many ascendancy points can you get in Path of Exile?
You can get eight ascendancy points. Each of the four Labyrinths, Normal, Cruel, Merciless and Uber, gives two points. You must complete that lab's six trials before you can enter it.
What is the Uber Labyrinth?
The Uber Labyrinth is the hardest of the four and gives the final two ascendancy points. Its trials are found in maps on the Atlas, so you reach it once you start mapping. Izaro and the traps are much more dangerous there than in earlier labs.
What level should I be for each Labyrinth?
Normal Lab is usually done mid-campaign, Cruel and Merciless as you reach the later acts, and Uber Lab once you are mapping. Your build and defences matter more than the exact level, especially for Uber Lab.
What happens if you die in the Labyrinth?
If you die, you lose your progress in that Labyrinth run and must start the maze again from the beginning. That is why defences, flasks and careful movement around traps matter so much, especially in the Uber Labyrinth.
Can someone run the Labyrinth for me?
Labyrinth carries can be done with you in a party or on your account. Grinding Gear Games' terms forbid letting others access your account and forbid paid in-game services, so party-based self-play carries less risk than piloted. We never sell currency or items.
