This OSRS Fire Cape guide in short: the Fire Cape comes from clearing all 63 waves of the TzHaar Fight Caves and killing TzTok-Jad. Bring ranged gear, Protect from Missiles for most waves, plenty of prayer restore, and switch between Protect from Magic and Protect from Missiles as Jad winds up each attack.
What is the Fire Cape and why does it matter?
The Fire Cape is the reward for finishing the TzHaar Fight Caves, a single-player challenge of 63 waves that ends with TzTok-Jad. It is one of the best melee capes in the game until you earn the Infernal Cape, and it is also the entry ticket for the Inferno.
Beyond the stats, it is a rite of passage. Jad teaches prayer switching under pressure, the same skill you use at almost every later boss. This guide reflects the Fight Caves as of October 2026.
What stats and gear do you need for the Fight Caves?
There is no hard requirement, but low stats make the run long and stressful. Most players attempt it with ranged and defence in the 70s or higher and good prayer. Higher prayer means more prayer points between restores and access to stronger prayers.
| Slot | Good choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | A strong crossbow or blowpipe-tier ranged weapon | Ranged handles every wave and Jad himself |
| Armour | The best ranged armour you own | Accuracy and defence against the ranged waves |
| Prayer | Protection prayers and a ranged boost prayer | You switch protection prayers all run |
| Inventory | Prayer restores, healing potions, ranging potions | Prayer points run out before health does |
Ironman accounts and pures can still earn the cape, but the margin for error is smaller, so expect a longer run.
How do the 63 waves of the Fight Caves work?
Each wave spawns a mix of TzHaar monsters that combine into bigger groups as you go. Some drain prayer, some hit with magic, some with ranged, and the healers in the last wave can undo your progress on Jad. The steady rules are simple:
- Use the safe spots the community has mapped so only one monster can reach you at a time.
- Kill the prayer-draining monsters early so your prayer lasts.
- Keep Protect from Missiles up through most waves, and switch when magic attackers line up.
- Sip restores before you are empty, not after.
How do you beat TzTok-Jad?
Jad alternates between a magic attack and a ranged attack, and each one can hit very hard. You read his animation: when he rears up he is about to use magic, and when he stamps he is about to use ranged. Switch to the matching protection prayer before the hit lands.
- Stand still and focus. Watch only Jad until the healers appear.
- Switch on the animation, not the sound. Sound can lag on some setups.
- Tag the healers. When they spawn, hit each one once so they chase you instead of healing Jad.
- Finish him. Go back to Jad and keep switching until he falls.
Set aside enough time before you start. A full run is long, and the safest habit is to finish it in one sitting while your focus is fresh.
What comes after the Fire Cape?
With a Fire Cape you can try the Inferno for the Infernal Cape, or the Fortis Colosseum for Dizana's Quiver. Both are long and unforgiving. Many players also start raids at this point, which is good practice for the new Fractured Archive covered in our fall 2026 OSRS guide. If you would rather learn the fights yourself, PvM coaching walks you through them live.

OSRS FAQ
How many waves are in the Fight Caves?
The TzHaar Fight Caves have 63 waves. The first 62 are mixed groups of TzHaar monsters, and wave 63 is TzTok-Jad. You need to clear every wave in order and kill Jad to earn the Fire Cape. Most players take around an hour, longer with low stats.
What level should I be for the Fire Cape?
There is no strict level, but most players feel comfortable with ranged and defence around the mid-70s or higher and prayer of at least 40 for Protect from Missiles, ideally much higher. Better gear and higher prayer make the run shorter and give you more room for mistakes.
What happens if I die to Jad?
Dying in the Fight Caves is safe: you keep your items, but you lose your progress and must start again from wave 1. Use failed runs to learn Jad's animations so the next attempt goes better.
Can someone else get my Fire Cape for me?
Some services do that by logging in to your account. Jagex's rules ban account sharing and count paid services as real-world trading, so it carries a real ban risk. If you want to keep things on your own account, coaching teaches you the waves and Jad live instead.
Is the Fire Cape worth it in 2026?
Yes. It is still one of the best melee capes until you get the Infernal Cape, it unlocks the Inferno, and the prayer-switching skill it teaches carries into every later boss and raid, including the Fractured Archive arriving in October 2026.
