ESO veteran dungeons are harder four-player versions of every group dungeon. You unlock veteran mode at level 50, then set the difficulty in the Group menu or Dungeon Finder. Bring a tank, healer and two damage dealers in Champion Point 160 gear. Rewards include monster set helms, Undaunted keys and achievements, with extra rewards for hard mode.

What are ESO veteran dungeons?

Every ESO group dungeon has a normal and a veteran version. Veteran uses the same map and bosses, but enemies hit harder, have more health and use extra mechanics. Most DLC dungeons also have an optional hard mode on the final boss. As of October 2026 the newest four-player dungeons are Naj-Caldeesh and Black Gem Foundry from the Feast of Shadows pack (2025), and group versions of Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifices became free for all players on October 12, 2026.

Fact Details
Group size 4 (1 tank, 1 healer, 2 damage dealers)

Lockout None on clears; pledges are daily
Main rewards Monster set helms, Undaunted keys, dungeon sets, achievements, titles, skins

Base game dungeons include Banished Cells, Elden Hollow, City of Ash, Spindleclutch, Wayrest Sewers, Darkshade Caverns, Fungal Grotto and Crypt of Hearts (each with I and II versions), plus single dungeons like Direfrost Keep, Tempest Island and Vaults of Madness. DLC packs added pairs such as Fang Lair and Scalecaller Peak, Frostvault and Depths of Malatar, Icereach and Unhallowed Grave, and Castle Thorn and Stone Garden.

How do you unlock and enter a veteran dungeon?

  1. Reach level 50. Veteran difficulty opens once you hit level 50 and start earning Champion Points.
  2. Join the Undaunted. At level 45 you get an invitation to your alliance's Undaunted Enclave in Elden Root, Mournhold or Wayrest. Sign the Tome of the Undaunted and finish the short intro quest.
  3. Grab your daily pledges. In the Enclave, Glirion the Redbeard and Maj al-Ragath give base game pledges and Urgarlag Chief-bane gives the DLC pledge.
  4. Set veteran difficulty. Open the Group menu and switch the difficulty to veteran before queueing.
  5. Queue or travel. Use the Dungeon Finder for a specific dungeon or a random one, or form a group and travel to the dungeon entrance on the map.
  6. Trigger hard mode if you want it. In most DLC dungeons you start hard mode by interacting with an object before the final boss. The object varies by dungeon.

What do you need before you start?

  • Champion Point 160 gear. Gold-quality gear is ideal for hard mode, but purple works for most veteran runs.
  • A clear role. Tanks need taunt, crowd control and group buffs. Healers need burst heals and support sets. Damage dealers need a steady rotation.
  • Consumables. Food, potions and repair kits; damage dealers may want poisons.
  • Dungeon knowledge. Read a short guide or watch a clear before your first veteran run of a DLC dungeon.
  • Allowed add-ons. Official add-ons for alerts and group frames are fine on PC. Avoid any tool that automates play.

Dungeon-by-dungeon directions

ESO has dozens of dungeons, so here is how to approach each type, plus the newest ones.

Base game veteran dungeons

Good for learning your role. Most bosses have one or two key mechanics. Tanks should face bosses away from the group, healers keep everyone topped up, and damage dealers focus adds first.

Older DLC dungeons

Fang Lair, Scalecaller Peak, Frostvault and similar dungeons add stronger mechanics and hard mode. Learn the final boss on veteran before you activate hard mode.

Naj-Caldeesh and Black Gem Foundry

The newest pair from the Feast of Shadows dungeon pack, released in August 2025 on PC. Expect newer mechanics and tighter damage checks; most groups read a guide before their first veteran clear.

Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifices

Group versions became free for all players on October 12, 2026, and solo versions are arriving with Season Two. These are good dungeons to learn while they are new to many players.

Hard mode and trifecta

Hard mode makes the final boss much tougher. The hardest achievement in each DLC dungeon, often called a trifecta, asks for hard mode, a speed run and no deaths in one run.

What loot and rewards can you get?

  • Monster set helms. Veteran clears of a dungeon's final boss can drop its monster set helm, and veteran pledge completions reward the helm too.
  • Monster set shoulders. Bought from Undaunted curated coffers with keys, or from the Golden Vendor in Cyrodiil when it sells them.
  • Undaunted keys. Base pledges give one key on normal and veteran, and up to two on hard mode. The DLC pledge gives two on normal, three on veteran and four on hard mode, so you can earn up to eight keys a day.
  • Dungeon sets. Each dungeon drops its own three sets of armor, weapons and jewelry.
  • Achievements. Titles, skins and personalities for hard mode, speed runs and no-death clears.

Drops are random, so a clear might give the piece you need or might not. Curated coffers make farming faster.

Tips to clear it faster

  1. Do your three daily pledges first; they give the most rewards for your time.
  2. Queue as a tank or healer for near-instant Dungeon Finder pops.
  3. Learn one DLC dungeon at a time on veteran before trying hard mode.
  4. Skip optional trash when the group agrees, but never pull more than your tank can hold.
  5. Pre-buff and use ultimates on bosses, not trash.
  6. Save keys for curated coffers instead of mystery coffers if you want a specific shoulder.
  7. Run with a guild group for hard mode; random groups rarely agree to try it.
  8. Check patch notes after each update; set and class changes shift what works.

Honest risk note: ZeniMax's terms do not allow account sharing, and paid boosting is against the rules of most publishers. A piloted carry, where a booster logs in to your account, carries the most risk. Self-play, where you join the group on your own character, carries less, and coaching carries none. Read account safety before you order. We never sell accounts, gold, items, cheats or mods.

ESO veteran dungeons FAQ

When do veteran dungeons unlock in ESO?

Veteran dungeons unlock once your character reaches level 50. You then switch the difficulty to veteran in the Group menu before entering or queueing. You can join the Undaunted from level 45 to pick up daily pledges. For hard mode content, most groups expect Champion Point 160 gear and a practiced role build.

How do you get monster set helms and shoulders?

Helms drop from the final boss of the matching dungeon on veteran, and veteran pledge completions also reward the helm. Shoulders come from Undaunted coffers bought with keys from pledges; curated coffers let you target a specific dungeon. The Golden Vendor in Cyrodiil sometimes sells them too. Drops are random, so expect to repeat runs.

How does hard mode work in ESO dungeons?

Most DLC dungeons have an optional hard mode on the final boss. Before the fight, a group member interacts with an object in the room, and the boss gains more health, damage and mechanics. Clearing it gives achievements and extra Undaunted keys from the pledge. The activation object differs from dungeon to dungeon.

What are the newest ESO dungeons?

The newest four-player dungeons are Naj-Caldeesh and Black Gem Foundry from the Feast of Shadows pack, released in August 2025 on PC. On October 12, 2026, the group versions of Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifices became free for all players, and Season Two brings solo versions of those two dungeons.

How many Undaunted keys can you earn per day?

You can take three pledges a day: two base game pledges and one DLC pledge. Depending on difficulty, they give four to eight keys in total. The DLC pledge pays the most, with three keys on veteran and four on veteran hard mode. Keys buy curated coffers for monster set shoulders.

Is an ESO dungeon carry safe?

No carry is risk-free. ZeniMax does not allow account sharing, so a piloted carry carries real risk to your account. Self-play, where you join our group on your own character, carries less, and coaching carries none. Read our account safety page before you choose, and keep your login private.
