ESO trials are 12-player raids with normal and veteran difficulty, and most final bosses add an optional hard mode. There are 14 trials as of October 2026; the newest is Ossein Cage. Enter from the Group menu or the trial entrance, ideally at Champion Point 160 gear. Rewards are trial gear sets, perfected sets and titles.

What are ESO trials?

Trials are ESO's raids. A group of 12 works through several bosses, and veteran runs post a score to a weekly leaderboard. Since 2026 ESO runs on a seasonal model instead of a yearly chapter. Season Two began on October 21, 2026. The planned Crimson Veldt trial has been pushed to 2027, so the newest live trial is still Ossein Cage from 2025.

Fact Details
Group size 12 (usually 2 tanks, 2 to 3 healers, 7 to 8 damage dealers)
Difficulties Normal, Veteran, and Veteran Hard Mode on most final bosses
Unlock Travel to the trial entrance, or use the Group menu; DLC trials need that content
Suggested level Champion Point 160 gear for veteran (the gear cap)
Lockout No lockout on clears; weekly reward coffers from the Trial Weekly quest
Main rewards Trial gear sets, perfected sets on veteran, titles, skins and mounts from achievements

The 14 trials are Aetherian Archive, Hel Ra Citadel, Sanctum Ophidia, Maw of Lorkhaj, Halls of Fabrication, Asylum Sanctorium, Cloudrest, Sunspire, Kyne's Aegis, Rockgrove, Dreadsail Reef, Sanity's Edge, Lucent Citadel and Ossein Cage.

How do you get into a trial?

  1. Reach level 50. You can enter normal trials earlier, but veteran trials assume level 50 with Champion Points.
  2. Check you own the content. Several trials came with chapters or DLC. Without it, you see a locked-content notice. Greymoor, home of Kyne's Aegis, is set to join the base game on November 9, 2026.
  3. Find a group. Join a trial guild, check the group finder or answer a call in zone chat. Trials have no random queue.
  4. Travel to the entrance. For Kyne's Aegis, go to Western Skyrim and look north of Solitude; the island sits north of Kilkreath Temple Wayshrine. For Ossein Cage, go to Solstice and enter the portal in the Argonian ruins.
  5. Set the difficulty. The group leader picks normal or veteran in the group menu before you zone in.
  6. Pick up the weekly quest. Grab the trial's weekly quest for an extra reward coffer.

What do you need before you start?

  • Champion Points. CP 160 gives gold-quality gear stats; more CP gives more passive power.
  • A role build. Tanks need taunts and group buffs, healers need heals plus support sets, and damage dealers need a practiced rotation.
  • Consumables. Bring food, potions, poisons where your build uses them, and repair kits.
  • Synergies. Learn which synergies your role should take or offer; they are part of every good run.
  • Allowed add-ons. ESO supports official add-ons for combat alerts and group frames on PC. Never use tools that automate inputs.

Boss-by-boss overview: Kyne's Aegis and Ossein Cage

Short overviews only. Your raid lead will set positions and calls.

Kyne's Aegis: Yandir the Butcher

The opening boss brings waves of adds, including vampire casters that must be interrupted. Tanks keep the boss turned away, damage dealers kill priority adds, and healers prepare for chaurus bile that players can pass around.

Kyne's Aegis: Captain Vrol

A fight that involves two ballistae and plenty of adds. Damage dealers handle adds and the siege weapons, tanks hold the captain, and the group watches for big area attacks.

Kyne's Aegis: Lord Falgravn

The final boss is joined by a lieutenant and holds prisoners that matter for achievements. Hard mode here is needed for some rewards, including a cosmetic. Groups split to handle adds while tanks keep Falgravn steady.

Ossein Cage overview

The newest trial takes place in a Coldharbour realm reached from Solstice. The group faces encounters such as the Shapers of Flesh, Jynorah and Skorkhif, and the final boss Overfiend Kazpian. It has a veteran speed run target of 45 minutes and newer, more demanding mechanics than Kyne's Aegis.

What is a trifecta?

Community shorthand for clearing veteran hard mode, inside the speed run target, with no deaths, all in one run. It earns the trial's top title and is the toughest goal in each trial.

What loot and rewards can you get?

  • Trial sets. Each trial drops its own gear sets. Kyne's Aegis drops Kyne's Wind, Roaring Opportunist, Vrol's Command and Yandir's Might.
  • Perfected sets. Veteran clears can drop perfected versions with an extra bonus.
  • Ossein Cage sets. Recovery Convergence, Harmony in Chaos, Kazpian's Cruel Signet and Dolorous Arena, each with a perfected version.
  • Weekly coffers. The trial's weekly quest gives a coffer once per week per character.
  • Titles and cosmetics. Kyne's Deliverance grants the Dawnbringer title; other achievements give skins, personalities or mounts.

Gear drops are random, so a clear might give you the piece you want or might not. Transmute stones help you reroll traits.

Tips to clear it faster

  1. Join a trial guild with set raid nights instead of pugging veteran content.
  2. Run normal first to learn the map and the boss order.
  3. Practice your rotation on a target dummy until your damage is steady.
  4. Use Discord voice; quick calls save more wipes than extra damage.
  5. Swap to healing or tank gear if the group is short; flexible players get more invites.
  6. Learn the hard mode trigger only after the group clears normal veteran cleanly.
  7. Farm the weekly coffer on alts for extra perfected pieces.
  8. Read the latest balance notes after each update; set changes shift what groups ask for.

Honest risk note: ZeniMax's terms do not allow account sharing, and paid boosting is against the rules of most publishers. A piloted carry, where a booster logs in to your account, carries the most risk. Self-play, where you join the group on your own character, carries less, and coaching carries none. Read account safety before you order. We never sell accounts, gold, items, cheats or mods.

ESO trials FAQ

How many players do you need for an ESO trial?

Trials are built for 12 players. A common setup is two tanks, two or three healers and seven or eight damage dealers, though the exact mix depends on the trial and on how experienced the group is. Normal trials can sometimes be cleared with fewer players, but veteran and hard mode runs expect a full, organized group.

What is the difference between normal, veteran and hard mode?

Normal trials have weaker bosses and drop standard sets. Veteran raises health and damage, adds tighter mechanics and can drop perfected sets. Hard mode is an optional extra on most final bosses that makes the fight much harder in exchange for extra achievements, titles and cosmetics. Most groups learn veteran before trying hard mode.

What is the newest ESO trial?

Ossein Cage, released with Update 46 in June 2025, is the newest live trial as of October 2026. It is reached through a portal in Solstice and ends with Overfiend Kazpian. ZeniMax had planned a new trial called Crimson Veldt for 2026, but it has been delayed to 2027 with no exact date.

Do I need DLC for Kyne's Aegis?

Right now Kyne's Aegis needs the Greymoor content. Players without it see a locked-content notice when they try to travel there. ZeniMax plans to add the Greymoor chapter to the base game for free on November 9, 2026, after which every player should be able to enter. Check the latest patch notes to confirm.

What does trifecta mean in ESO?

Trifecta is a community term for clearing a trial on veteran hard mode, within the speed run time, without anyone dying, all in a single run. It unlocks the trial's top achievement and title. It is the hardest goal in each trial, and most groups only try it after many clean hard mode clears.

Is an ESO trial carry safe?

No carry is risk-free. ZeniMax does not allow account sharing, so a piloted carry carries real risk. Self-play, where you join our group on your own character, carries less, and coaching carries none. Read our account safety page and choose the option you are comfortable with before ordering.
