The Venomous Abyss is the World of Warcraft: Midnight Season 2 raid, live since the week of August 18, 2026. Fly east of Zul'Aman to the Coiled Isle at level 90. It has eight bosses on Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic and Mythic, with gear from item level 279 up to 344 on the last Mythic bosses.
What is the current WoW Midnight raid?
World of Warcraft: Midnight is in Season 2, which started with patch 12.1, Curse of Ula'tek. The season's raid is The Venomous Abyss, a level 90 raid on a new zone called the Coiled Isle. The story centres on Ula'tek, an ancient serpent loa woken by the Soulcoilers, and the raid ends with her in the inner sanctum.

No release date has been announced, so watch our upcoming raids and seasons page and the latest patch notes for timing.
How do you unlock and enter The Venomous Abyss?
There is no attunement. Any level 90 character can walk in on Normal, Heroic or Mythic, and Raid Finder only needs the minimum item level. Directions from a city:
- Reach level 90. If you are still levelling, our World of Warcraft beginner guide explains the basics.
- Travel to Zul'Aman in Quel'Thalas. The Coiled Isle sits off the coast east of Zul'Aman.
- Fly east to the Coiled Isle, or take the Coiled Isle portal once you have unlocked it through the zone's story.
- Enter the Vaults of Atal'Utek. The Gate of the Serpent's Eye is the quickest entrance and leads straight to the bridge toward the raid.
- If you use the Western or Eastern Fang gate, head north and keep to the right-hand bridge, because the left one is broken.
- Walk into the portal at the north end of the map. That is the raid entrance. For Raid Finder, skip the walk and queue through the Group Finder instead.
Raid Finder opened in four weekly wings between August 18 and September 8, 2026, and all four are open now, so you can queue for any of them.
What do you need before you start?
What you need depends on difficulty. These are practical targets, not hard rules:
- Raid Finder: meet the queue's item level and know the basic role of each boss. Season 2 Champion-track gear from world content and lower Mythic+ keys is plenty.
- Normal: mostly Champion-track gear (292 to 308) and a group that listens to calls.
- Heroic: Hero-track pieces (305 to 321), full enchants and gems, and a group that has read each fight. This is where Ahead of the Curve comes from.
- Mythic: a set 20-player roster, Myth-track upgrades and many hours of progression.
Bring flasks, food, weapon oils or stones, health potions and combat potions. A typical flexible group runs two tanks, about one healer for every four or five players, and damage dealers for the rest. Mixed buffs help, so bring a variety of classes when you can.
Use add-ons Blizzard allows through its interface, such as boss timers and raid frames. Never use third-party automation or cheats; they break the terms of use. Mythic+ is the fastest way to gear up between raid nights, and our WoW Mythic+ guide covers the Season 2 dungeon pool.
Boss-by-boss overview of The Venomous Abyss
This is a short overview of who each boss is and what each role should focus on. Exact abilities change with hotfixes, so read your in-game Adventure Guide for the current numbers. Bosses are listed by Raid Finder wing; kill order inside each section can vary.
Nek'zali the Soulcoiler
The shadow hunter who helped wake Ula'tek and the first gate of the raid. Treat it as the warm-up: tanks learn swap timing, healers learn the damage pattern, and damage dealers handle whatever he summons.
The Twin Fangs
Vexhul and Ithraz, two serpents fought together in a chamber over a sea of venom. With two bosses, health balance and tank positioning matter most. Keep them apart if they empower each other, and keep track of safe ground.
Entombed Sentinels
A council of ancient vault golems corrupted by venom. Council fights reward focus on calls: damage dealers follow the kill or cleave plan, tanks keep each sentinel where the group wants it, and everyone moves out of overlapping attacks.
Vashnik the Malignant
The brewer of Ula'tek's venoms in the Chamber of Virulence. Expect poison effects that build up over time, so healers plan cooldowns around the peaks and players with defensive spells use them before stacks get high.
The Lost Explorers
A group of possessed tortollan explorers. Like other multi-target fights, this one tests awareness more than raw damage: read which explorer is active and do not tunnel on one target while the others act.
Sszorak
A venom-warped beast that uses violent winds deep in Atal'Utek. Movement is the skill check, so ranged players should keep spread positions and melee should stay close and mobile.
The Coiled Altar
The final ritual before Ula'tek, tied to Hex Lord Malacrass's spirit and Zul'jan. It is one of the two late bosses that drop the highest Mythic gear, and it usually asks the whole raid to handle several jobs at once.
Ula'tek
The loa herself and the end boss. Kills before the next raid tier earn Ahead of the Curve on Heroic and Cutting Edge on Mythic. Expect a long fight with escalating raid damage, so healers save their biggest cooldowns for the later phases.

What loot and rewards can you get?
Each boss has its own loot table, and drops are random, so treat every item below as something you might get rather than a promise.
- Tier set: Season 2 class sets for all 13 classes. Head comes from The Twin Fangs, chest from Vashnik, hands from the Entombed Sentinels, legs from Sszorak and shoulders from The Lost Explorers. Ula'tek drops a Curio that can be swapped for a tier piece.
- Item levels: later bosses drop higher item levels than early ones on every difficulty. On Mythic, The Coiled Altar and Ula'tek drop item level 344, ten levels above the usual Myth-track cap of 334.
- Great Vault: killing bosses each week fills the raid row of your Great Vault, which offers a pick of gear at the following reset.
- Mount: the Primeval Skyfriend can drop from Ula'tek on Mythic.
- Titles and achievements: "Venom's End" for a Mythic Ula'tek kill, Ahead of the Curve and Cutting Edge for Heroic and Mythic kills before the next tier, and a pet, Ula'took, from a special achievement on Ula'tek.
Loot from each difficulty is limited by your weekly lockout, so you can loot each boss once per difficulty per week.
Tips to clear it faster
- Start with Raid Finder or Story Mode to see the fights before a Normal or Heroic group expects you to know them.
- Fill your Great Vault from more than one row. Raid kills, Mythic+ runs and delves all add choices.
- Gear the slots tier does not cover first. Use Mythic+ for the rest.
- Read one short guide per boss. Knowing your own job beats memorising every ability.
- Bring all consumables every pull. They are cheap compared with a wipe.
- Kill the gear-check bosses first. Bosses that drop tier or Curio items give the biggest early upgrades.
- Plan ahead for Season 3. Ahead of the Curve only counts before the next raid opens, and the next raid is The Worldcore.

WoW Midnight raid FAQ
What is the current raid in WoW Midnight?
The current raid is The Venomous Abyss, the Midnight Season 2 raid added with patch 12.1, Curse of Ula'tek. It opened the week of August 18, 2026 with eight bosses on the Coiled Isle, ending with the serpent loa Ula'tek. It runs on Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic and Mythic, plus a Story Mode for players who only want the story.
Where is the Venomous Abyss entrance?
The raid is on the Coiled Isle, east of Zul'Aman. Fly there or use the Coiled Isle portal once unlocked, enter the Vaults of Atal'Utek, and take the Gate of the Serpent's Eye for the quickest route to the bridge. The raid portal is at the north end of the vaults. Raid Finder players can simply queue from the Group Finder.
What item level do you need for the Venomous Abyss?
Blizzard lists item level 273 as the minimum for Raid Finder. For Normal, most groups expect Champion-track gear around 292 or higher, and Heroic groups usually look for Hero-track pieces. Loot ranges from 279 on early Raid Finder bosses to 344 from the last two Mythic bosses, so each difficulty is a clear step up.
When does The Worldcore raid come out?
No date has been announced. Blizzard revealed The Worldcore at BlizzCon in September 2026 as an eight-boss raid for Midnight Season 3, with Xal'atath as the final boss. It belongs to the Eclipse update. Until Blizzard gives a date, treat any release timing you see as a guess, and check official patch notes.
How often can you loot the Venomous Abyss?
Each difficulty has a weekly lockout, so you can loot each boss once per difficulty per week. Lockouts reset with the regional weekly reset, which is Tuesday in the Americas and Wednesday in Europe. Raid kills also fill the raid row of your Great Vault, which gives you a choice of gear after the reset.
Is a WoW raid carry safe?
No carry is risk free. Blizzard's terms forbid account sharing, so a piloted carry, where someone logs in to your character, carries the most risk. Self-play, where you join the group on your own character and keep your login, carries less, and coaching carries none. Read the provider's account safety information before ordering.
