Diablo Immortal is a free action RPG from Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase for PC, iOS and Android. You slay demons, finish the story and build a stronger hero. Most of the game is PvE, where winning means clearing harder rifts and bosses; in Battlegrounds, your team wins by completing or stopping timed objectives.

What is the objective of Diablo Immortal?
Your big-picture goal is to finish the main story and then make your hero as strong as possible. Power comes from levels, Paragon, gear, Legendary Gems and set bonuses. Each play session usually mixes a few short goals: daily bounties, a handful of rift runs, a zone event or a raid, and progress on the battle pass.
Inside a single dungeon or rift, the objective is simple: fight through the area and kill the final boss. Challenge Rifts add a timer, so the goal is to clear before the clock hits zero. Elder Rifts let you add crests that change the rewards, and the goal there is loot rather than speed.
How do you win a match in Diablo Immortal?
Most of Diablo Immortal has no winner or loser in the usual sense. In PvE, "winning" means clearing content at a higher difficulty than before: beating a tougher Challenge Rift tier, downing a Helliquary boss with your raid, or finishing the newest story chapter. In PvP, there are real wins and losses.
| Mode | Team size | How you win |
|---|---|---|
| Story and dungeons | Solo or party | Defeat the final boss of each quest or dungeon |
| Challenge Rifts | Solo | Clear the rift and its boss before the timer runs out |
| Elder Rifts | Solo or party | Kill the rift guardian; crests decide the reward |
| Helliquary raids | 8 players | Defeat the raid boss together |
| Battlegrounds | 8 vs 8 | Attackers finish timed objectives up to the Ancient Heart; defenders stop them in time |
| Shadows vs Immortals | Factions on a server | Long-running faction rivalry decided by events and challenges over a cycle |
Battlegrounds unlock at level 55. Teams take turns on offense and defense, and the attacking side has a short time limit for each objective. As of the Made to Suffer patch, Battleground seasons run eight weeks instead of ten.
How does ranked or progression work?
You level from 1 to 60 through the story, then earn Paragon levels that add small permanent bonuses. After that, the big jumps come from upgrading Legendary Gems, finding set items and climbing the Helliquary. Challenge Rift tiers give you a clear number to push, and Battlegrounds use a matchmaking rating that pairs you with similar players. For the long Paragon climb and the hardest difficulty tiers, read our Paragon and Hell difficulty guide, and browse every article on our Diablo Immortal guides hub.
Beginner tips to win more
- Follow the main story first. It unlocks most systems and is the fastest early experience.
- Do your daily bounties and zone events; they give steady experience and battle pass progress.
- Socket the best Legendary Gems you have, even low-star ones. Gems matter more than item level early on.
- Push Challenge Rifts one tier at a time. If you fail on time, improve gear before retrying.
- Join an active clan so you can find groups for raids, Helliquary bosses and events.
- In Battlegrounds, stay with your team and play the objective. Lone kills rarely win matches.
- Read patch notes after each update; class balance changes can shift which skills feel strong.
- Spend slowly. Free players can finish everything; paying mostly changes how fast top-end gear arrives.

Diablo Immortal FAQ
Is Diablo Immortal free to play?
Yes. Diablo Immortal is free to download on Windows, iOS and Android, and you can play the full story and endgame without paying. It earns money through optional purchases. Those purchases can speed up gear progress at the very top end, so spenders and free players climb at different speeds, but the campaign, rifts, bounties and events are all open to everyone.
What is the level cap in Diablo Immortal?
The character level cap is 60. Once you hit it, further experience goes into Paragon levels instead, which add small permanent bonuses through Paragon trees. Most of your long-term power after 60 comes from Paragon, Legendary Gems, set items and the Helliquary, so the real endgame starts at the cap rather than ending there.
Can you play Diablo Immortal solo?
Yes. The story, Challenge Rifts and most daily activities work well solo. Some content is built for groups, though: Helliquary raids are eight-player fights, Battlegrounds are eight versus eight, and clan and Shadows versus Immortals activities need other players. Elder Rifts can be run alone or with a party, and grouping usually makes harder difficulties faster.
How do you win in Battlegrounds?
Battlegrounds are eight versus eight matches where teams take turns attacking and defending. Attackers must complete a series of timed objectives that end at the Ancient Heart, and they win if they finish in time. Defenders win by stopping them before the clock runs out. Good teams group up, protect the objective carrier and avoid feeding kills to the other side.
Which class is best for beginners in Diablo Immortal?
There is no single best class, and balance changes often. Classes with ranged damage and some self-healing or summons, such as the Necromancer, Wizard or Demon Hunter, tend to feel forgiving while you learn boss patterns. Pick the class whose style you enjoy most, because you will spend many hours on it and gear is tied to that character.
What does the Made to Suffer update add?
Made to Suffer is Patch 5.1, which went live after maintenance on September 16 and 17, 2026. It continues the Nation in Agony story in Lut Gholein with the new High Ward district for level 60 players, adds the Twisting Torments zone event, two new Legendary Gems and Battleground changes, including shorter eight week Battleground seasons.
