A placement matches boost is when a high-rank player plays your first ranked games of a season, the ones that decide your starting rank. In Valorant that is five matches, in Rocket League ten per playlist, and in CS2 Premier ten wins. Prices are per game, from $2.5 to $4 at the time of writing.
What are placement matches?
Placement matches (also called placements, calibration or provisional games) are the first ranked games you play on a new ranked account or at the start of a new season. Until you finish them, the game shows no rank. When you do, it gives you a starting rank based on how you did and on a hidden skill rating the game keeps in the background.
Because your starting point shapes the rest of the season, many players care a lot about these few games. A strong run can save you days of climbing. A run of bad games can leave you starting lower than your skill and grinding back up.
Not every game still uses them. Several have dropped placements entirely and simply start you on the ladder, which is covered in the table below.
How many placement matches does each game have?
Rules change between seasons, so treat this as accurate as of October 2026 and check the in-game screen for your own account.
| Game | How placements work | Placement boost available? |
|---|---|---|
| Valorant | Five placement matches for a fresh ranked start, after reaching account level 20 | Yes, $4 per game |
| League of Legends | Solo/Duo and Flex each have their own placement games when you start ranked or after a reset | Yes, $4 per game |
| Counter-Strike 2 | Your Premier CS Rating stays hidden until you have won 10 Premier matches | Yes, $4 per game |
| Rocket League | 10 placement matches in each playlist (1v1, 2v2, 3v3), and each keeps its own rank | Yes, $2.5 per game |
| Overwatch | Your first competitive matches of a season set your starting rank, with a predicted rank shown as you play | Yes, $4 per game |
| Dota 2 | A new ranked account plays calibration matches before it gets a medal | Yes, $4 per game |
| Teamfight Tactics | A few placement games before a rank is shown | Yes, $3 per game |
| Deadlock | Calibration matches first, and they can't be played in a party | Piloted only, $39 for all calibration |
| Mobile Legends | Reaching Mythic starts placement matches that set your starting Mythic points | Yes, $29 for all of them |
| Black Ops 7 | You start unranked and win three placement matches to get your first rank | Covered by the rank boost |
| Apex Legends, Siege X, PUBG, Warzone, Battlefield 6, Hearthstone | No placement matches to buy: your rank moves from your first ranked game | No (rank boosts only) |
Marvel Rivals is a special case: new ranked players play placement matches, while returning players start a new season a few divisions below where they finished.
Do placement matches matter as much as people think?
They matter, but less than the myth says. In most games your placement results are combined with a hidden rating built from your past games. That is why a player who wins all five Valorant placements on a brand-new account does not land in Immortal, and why a returning player who loses a couple of placements does not fall to the bottom of the ladder.
What placements really do is set where the climb starts. A good start saves time. A bad start costs time, because you have to win your way back. For players who only want a fair starting point, playing placements yourself when you are rested and warmed up is often enough. For players short on time, a placement matches boost moves that start up so the season begins closer to where they want to be.
How much does a placement matches boost cost?
Placements are priced per game. These are piloted prices at the time of writing, in USD. They can change, and duo costs 1.5×.
- Valorant, five placements: $4 × 5 = $20.
- Rocket League, one playlist of 10: $2.5 × 10 = $25.
- League of Legends, five placement games in duo: $4 × 5 × 1.5 = $30.
- Deadlock calibration: all calibration matches for $39, piloted only.
- Mobile Legends Mythic: all Mythic placement matches for $29.
Bundles can be the better deal if your account is not ranked-ready yet. The Valorant Ranked Starter Bundle levels a fresh account to 20 and plays your five placements for $39, against $44 bought separately. The League of Legends Ranked Ready Bundle takes you from level 1 to 30 and plays your first five placement games for $79, against $85 separately. In CS2, the Premier Season Start Bundle covers calibration (10 wins) plus 10 more wins, up to 14,999 rating, for $65.
How does a placement matches boost work?
- Pick the game and mode. On the game page, choose placements, the number of games, and piloted or duo. The total is shown before you pay.
- Tell us your region. Your booster connects from the same region, so the login looks normal.
- Add your login after paying (piloted only). It goes on your private order page, stored encrypted, and is deleted after the order.
- A vetted booster plays the games. Boosters are vetted and ID-verified, and they post screenshots of each result on your order page.
- Your rank is revealed. When the last placement is done you get a final screenshot, and the order closes. If we can't finish your placements for a reason on our side, we refund the games not played.
The full process is on our how it works page.
Should you boost placements or buy a rank boost instead?
Choose placements if you have not played ranked this season yet and you are happy to climb from wherever you land. It is the lowest-cost way to get a better starting point.
Choose a rank boost if you already know the rank you want. Placements cannot promise a specific rank, because the hidden rating has a big say. A rank boost ends when you reach the target. Our guide to what rank boosting is explains how those orders are priced, and win boosting explained covers buying a set number of wins after placements.
If your account cannot queue ranked at all yet, start with ranked unlock requirements first.

Price my boostAsk Boost Up AICan you get banned for a placement boost?
Honest risk note: a piloted placement boost means another person plays on your account. Riot, Blizzard, Valve, Epic, EA and Activision all forbid account sharing, and many forbid boosting outright, so there is a real risk of a suspension or ban. Duo keeps your login with you and carries less risk, though some publishers still treat any play meant to boost a rank as against their rules. Read our account safety notice first.
Placements on a brand-new account are when security systems pay close attention, because the account has little history. Boosters reduce the obvious flags by using a VPN set to your region and appearing offline, and they never use cheats or exploits. If your account is flagged during an order, we stop straight away and contact you about the next step.
How to do well in placements yourself
If you would rather play them yourself, these habits help in every game:
- Warm up first. Play a few unranked games or a short aim routine before your first placement.
- Play your strongest pick. Placements are not the time to learn a new agent, champion or hero.
- Queue with a reliable friend or a pro. A steady duo partner cuts out a lot of random losses. Play With a Pro starts at $19 for one hour.
- Stop after two losses in a row. Tilted games in placements cost more than usual.
- Spread them out. Nothing says you must finish placements in one evening.
Placement matches FAQ
What is a placement matches boost?
A placement matches boost is when a high-rank player plays your placement games, the first ranked games of a season or on a new ranked account, to give you a better starting rank. It can be piloted, where the booster plays on your account, or duo, where you play together. You pay per game, and duo costs 1.5 times the piloted price.
How many placement matches are there in Valorant?
As of October 2026, a fresh Valorant ranked start needs five placement matches, and your account must be level 20 before you can play competitive at all. Your rank is shown after the fifth game. A Valorant placement boost costs $4 per game piloted at the time of writing, so all five come to $20.
How many placement matches are there in Rocket League?
Rocket League has 10 placement matches in each competitive playlist: 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3. Each playlist keeps its own rank, so finishing placements in 2v2 does not place you in 3v3. A Rocket League placement boost costs $2.5 per game at the time of writing, which is $25 for one playlist.
Do CS2 Premier placements exist?
Not as a fixed set of games. In CS2 Premier your CS Rating stays hidden until you have won 10 Premier matches, so in practice those 10 wins work as calibration. Premier also needs Prime Status on the account. Our CS2 Premier Season Start Bundle covers calibration plus 10 more wins, up to 14,999 rating, for $65 at the time of writing.
Can a placement boost guarantee a certain rank?
No. In most games your starting rank comes from your placement results combined with a hidden rating built from past games, so nobody can honestly promise a specific rank from placements alone. If you need to reach a specific rank, buy a rank boost instead, which only ends when you reach the target.
Can I play placements in duo with a booster?
In most team games, yes. You play on your own account and the booster queues with you, so you keep your login. Duo costs 1.5 times the piloted price. Deadlock calibration is the exception: it cannot be played in a party, so it is piloted only.
