Helldivers 2 has ten difficulty levels, from Trivial (1) to Super Helldive (10). You unlock each one by finishing a full Operation on the level below. Higher levels pay up to 300% more XP and Requisition, and add Rare and Super Samples, which you need for ship modules. Medals buy Warbond gear at any difficulty.
How does progression work in Helldivers 2?
Helldivers 2 has no gear score or item level. Your power comes from five separate tracks that grow side by side:
- Level and rank title: XP from missions raises your level, which unlocks stratagems you can buy with Requisition Slips. The cap is now level 300, raised from 150.
- Difficulty: ten levels, unlocked one at a time.
- Samples: Common, Rare and Super Samples pay for ship modules.
- Medals: spent in Warbonds on weapons, armor, boosters and cosmetics.
- Super Credits: found on missions or bought, and used to unlock premium Warbonds.
As of October 22, 2026 the game is in the Second Galactic War, after Major Update 7.0 took players into the Illuminate Void. The newest premium Warbond, Scope of Authority, launched on October 20, and Arrowhead's roadmap points to Update 8.0 in December. What are the Helldivers 2 difficulty levels?
Every level above Easy raises the XP and Requisition bonus and adds harder enemies, more outposts and, from level 5, random operation modifiers.
| # | Difficulty | Missions per Operation | Reward bonus | Samples you can find |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Trivial | 1 | 0% | Common |
| 2 | Easy | 1 | 0% | Common |
| 3 | Medium | 2 | 25% | Common |
| 4 | Challenging | 2 | 50% | Common, Rare |
| 5 | Hard | 3 | 75% | Common, Rare |
| 6 | Extreme | 3 | 100% | Common, Rare, Super |
| 7 | Suicide Mission | 3 | 150% | Common, Rare, Super |
| 8 | Impossible | 3 | 200% | Common, Rare, Super |
| 9 | Helldive | 3 | 250% | Common, Rare, Super |
| 10 | Super Helldive | 3 | 300% | Common, Rare, Super |
The community wiki lists Super Samples from Extreme (6) today; older guides say 7, so if you are farming them, difficulty 7 or higher is the safe bet. Super Helldive, added in the Escalation of Freedom update, also brings Giant Outposts and the heaviest enemy presence.
How do levels, samples and Warbonds work?
XP, levels and rank titles
You earn XP for main objectives, side objectives, destroyed nests and outposts, and for every Helldiver who makes the extraction shuttle. You get XP even if the mission fails, and the difficulty bonus multiplies it. Rank titles change every five or ten levels, from Cadet at level 1 up to the new top title at level 300. The most useful stratagem unlocks land by level 25 to 30, including the exosuits at 25.
Samples and ship modules
Ship modules are permanent upgrades bought in six sections of your Super Destroyer: Patriotic Administration Center, Orbital Cannons, Hangar, Bridge, Engineering Bay and Robotics Workshop. Each section has five tiers. They cost samples, and tier 4 and 5 also cost Requisition Slips. Buying every module takes about 3,830 Common, 2,920 Rare and 305 Super Samples plus 335,000 Requisition. Samples only count if they reach extraction with a living Helldiver, so the carrier must get on the shuttle or the samples must be picked up again.
Medals and Warbonds
Medals drop from missions and Major Orders at every difficulty. You spend them page by page inside a Warbond. Helldivers Mobilize! is free; premium and Legendary Warbonds cost Super Credits. Warbonds never expire, so there is no rush, but finishing every Warbond now takes about 18,522 Medals in total, which is a long grind for a new player.
How do you reach Super Helldive?
Here are step-by-step directions from your first drop to a clean difficulty 10 extraction:
- Finish the training and first Operations. Clear Trivial and Easy to unlock Medium. Each level opens once you complete a full Operation on the one below, and failing any mission fails the Operation.
- Climb to Challenging (4) for Rare Samples. Start buying the cheap tier 1 and 2 modules that cut stratagem cooldowns.
- Reach level 15 to 25. Unlock the core stratagems most squads rely on, such as the Orbital Laser, Eagle 500kg Bomb and an anti-tank support weapon.
- Move to Extreme and Suicide Mission (6 to 7). This is where Super Samples appear and where most players should settle until their modules reach tier 3.
- Specialise per front. Build one anti-armor loadout for Terminids and Automatons, and one crowd-control loadout for the Illuminate.
- Clear Impossible and Helldive (8 to 9). Community guides suggest being around level 40 before Helldive. Play in a squad of four with voice chat.
- Run Super Helldive (10). On the drop, pick a landing near a main objective, clear it as a group, take side objectives only if the map is calm, grab samples on the way, and call extraction with time to spare.
On every high-difficulty mission, follow the same rhythm: land together, kill patrols before they call reinforcements, destroy outposts that block your route, finish the main objective first, then extract with every sample carrier on the shuttle.
Tips to progress faster
- Play at the highest difficulty you can finish. A clear on 7 pays far more than a failed run on 9.
- Grab samples on the way, not as a detour. Long detours cost reinforcements and time.
- Split sample carriers. If one player carries everything, one bad death can wipe the haul.
- Buy cooldown modules first. Shorter cooldowns make every later difficulty easier.
- Follow Major Orders. They pay Medals for the whole community and focus fights on one front.
- Pick a Warbond with a clear goal. Buy the pages that unlock a weapon you will actually use.
- Bring anti-tank to every squad. Chargers, Hulks and Striders stop runs that lack it.
- Extract with time on the clock. Remaining mission time adds XP at extraction.
How can Boosting Games help?
If you want help with a specific goal, such as your first Super Helldive or a pile of Super Samples for ship modules, we have focused services. Browse them all in the Helldivers 2 services collection.

These are starting prices as of October 2026, and the exact price for your options shows before checkout. We never sell Super Credits or accounts. See how it works for the order process.
Honest risk note: Sony's and Arrowhead's terms do not allow account sharing, and most publishers forbid paid boosting, so some risk always remains. Piloted orders, where a booster logs in, carry the most risk. Playing alongside our squad on your own account carries less, and coaching carries none. Read account safety first. We never sell accounts, gold or currency, items, cheats or mods.

Helldivers 2 progression FAQ
How do you unlock higher difficulties in Helldivers 2?
Finish a full Operation on your highest unlocked difficulty to open the next one. For example, completing an Operation on Challenging (4) unlocks Hard (5). If any mission in the Operation fails, the Operation fails, so you have to finish it again. Operations get longer as you climb, from one mission on the easiest levels to three from Hard upward.
What difficulty do Super Samples drop on?
The community wiki currently lists Super Samples from Extreme, difficulty 6, up to Super Helldive. Some older guides say they start at Suicide Mission, difficulty 7. If you are farming them, playing on 7 or higher is a safe choice. Samples only count once a living Helldiver carries them onto the extraction shuttle.
What is the max level in Helldivers 2?
The level cap is 300, raised from 150 in a later patch. Rank titles change every few levels, starting at Cadet and ending with a new title at level 300. Levels unlock stratagems you buy with Requisition Slips, and the most useful unlocks come by around level 25 to 30, so you do not need a very high level to play hard missions.
Do Warbonds expire?
No. Warbonds do not expire, so you can earn Medals and fill pages at your own pace. Helldivers Mobilize! is free, while premium and Legendary Warbonds cost Super Credits, which you can find on missions or buy. You must unlock a Warbond before you can spend Medals on any item inside it.
What level should you be for Helldive or Super Helldive?
There is no level lock, only the difficulty unlock chain. Community guides suggest being around level 40 before Helldive, with your key stratagems unlocked and cooldown ship modules bought. Skill, squad coordination and a balanced loadout with anti-tank matter more than the number next to your name.
How much does it cost to unlock every ship module?
Across all six sections and five tiers, ship modules cost about 3,830 Common, 2,920 Rare and 305 Super Samples, plus 335,000 Requisition Slips for tiers 4 and 5. Each purchase only affects your own Helldiver, so every squad member needs to unlock their own modules.
