Deadlock ranks run Initiate, Seeker, Acolyte, Sentinel, Mystic, Ritualist, Emissary, Oracle, Phantom, Ascendant and Eternus, each split into six subranks (I to VI). Ranked mode needs 60 Standard wins, starts with 8 solo calibration matches, and you need 1,000 Rank Points to move up each subrank.
Deadlock ranks in order
Valve relaunched Deadlock's ranked system as a dedicated Ranked Mode on July 30, 2026. Before you calibrate you sit in Obscurus, the unranked state. After that, there are eleven ranks, and each has six subranks from I (lowest) to VI, which makes 66 steps between Initiate I and Eternus VI.
| Rank | Subranks | What it usually looks like | Our price per subrank (piloted) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Initiate | I – VI | Brand-new ranked players | $2.5 |
| Seeker | I – VI | Learning lanes and last hits | $2.5 |
| Acolyte | I – VI | Better farm, weak map awareness | $3 |
| Sentinel | I – VI | Steady laning, messy mid-game | $3.5 |
| Mystic | I – VI | The busy middle of the ladder | $4 |
| Ritualist | I – VI | Good item timings and rotations | $5 |
| Emissary | I – VI | Strong mechanics, real objective play | $6 |
| Oracle | I – VI | The highest rank calibration can place you | $8 |
| Phantom | I – VI | Very high level | $11 |
| Ascendant | I – VI | Near the top of each region | $16 |
| Eternus | I – VI (percentile based) | The best players; subranks follow live percentiles | Not sold |
Prices are piloted rates at the time of writing and can change. The Deadlock boosting page shows a live total before you pay; our climbs stop at Ascendant VI.
How do Rank Points work in Deadlock?
Ranked Mode uses visible Rank Points (RP) with a progress bar under your badge. You need 1,000 RP to move up one subrank. The last step out of a rank, for example Mystic VI to Ritualist I, needs 2,000 RP, so crossing into a new rank takes noticeably longer.
A typical match moves you around 300 RP up or down. Valve raised that from about 250 in an August 2, 2026 update to speed climbing up. The exact amount shifts with matchmaking quality, and win streaks add a bonus on top, so three or four wins in a row can carry you through a subrank quickly.
Eternus works differently. Its subranks are percentile thresholds that update daily, so your Eternus subrank depends on where you sit among the other Eternus players, not on a fixed RP total.
Deadlock loss protection explained
Deadlock gives you a buffer before you rank down:
- 2 games of protection when you are at the bottom of a subrank.
- 5 games of protection when you are on the boundary of a full rank, for example Ritualist I about to drop to Mystic VI.
Shield icons under your progress bar show how much protection you have left. It is generous, but it is not a reason to keep queuing on a losing streak.
How to unlock ranked in Deadlock
- Win 60 Standard matches. Ranked Mode opens only after 60 wins in Standard mode.
- Get three heroes ranked-ready. A hero needs 15 Standard wins before you can pick it in Ranked, and you need at least three. Newly released heroes are exempt for a limited time but do not count toward the three.
- Keep your record clean. You cannot queue Ranked with an active matchmaking restriction or ban.
- Play your calibration matches solo, covered next.
The 15-win rule means it pays to settle on a small hero pool early. Spreading 60 wins across fifteen heroes leaves you unable to pick most of them in Ranked.
Deadlock calibration: 8 solo matches
When you first enter Ranked, and at the start of each season, you play 8 calibration matches. You cannot be in a party for them, so they are always solo. The highest rank calibration can give you is Oracle VI; anyone stronger than that climbs the rest of the way through normal matches.
Because calibration cannot be played in a party, there is no duo option. Our Deadlock Ranked Calibration is piloted only: a high-rank player plays all your calibration matches for $39 so your first rank starts higher. For how placements work across other games, see our placement matches guide.
Can you play Deadlock ranked with friends?
Only in pairs. Ranked Mode allows solo players or duos, never larger parties.
| Situation | Rule |
|---|---|
| Party size | Solo or duo only |
| Duo rank gap | At most 1 full rank apart |
| Eternus duos | Both Eternus, within 3 subranks |
| Calibration | Solo only |
The one-rank limit also applies to duo boosting: your booster has to be within one rank of you to queue together, so we assign a booster from the right bracket. If you want a much higher player on your team, that is a piloted order instead.
Deadlock ranked season dates (as of October 2026)
The first season, Beta Season 1, started with the ranked relaunch on July 30, 2026. Valve originally set it to end on October 7, then extended it: as of October 2026, it ends on November 5, 2026 at 2:00 PM PDT, with the next season starting straight after. Expect a fresh calibration when it does. Our ranked reset dates guide tracks changes like this.
How to climb Deadlock ranks
- Last-hit and deny in lane. Souls decide your item timings, and a strong lane carries into the mid-game.
- Farm camps between waves. Never stand idle; clear a jungle camp on the way back to lane.
- Play three heroes well. You need 15 wins on each anyway, and deep hero knowledge beats a wide pool.
- Group for objectives. Walkers and big neutral objectives win games; solo kills rarely do.
- Use your duo slot. A partner within one rank who calls rotations is worth a lot in a mode capped at two.
- Review losses. Watch one replay a week and note where you died without vision or backup.
Mental game matters as much as mechanics; our guides on how to stop tilting and getting out of elo hell apply directly.

Deadlock runs on your Steam account. Steam's Subscriber Agreement does not allow sharing your account, and Valve can restrict accounts that break its rules. Piloted orders, including calibration, carry real ban risk. Duo is lower risk because you keep your login, and coaching does not involve your account at all. Read our account safety page before you decide.

Deadlock ranks FAQ
How many ranks are in Deadlock?
Deadlock has eleven ranks: Initiate, Seeker, Acolyte, Sentinel, Mystic, Ritualist, Emissary, Oracle, Phantom, Ascendant and Eternus. Each has six subranks from I to VI, for 66 steps in total. Players who have not calibrated yet show as Obscurus. Eternus subranks are based on live percentiles rather than fixed Rank Points.
How do you unlock ranked in Deadlock?
You need 60 wins in Standard mode, at least three heroes with 15 Standard wins each, and no active matchmaking restrictions. Recently released heroes can be picked for a limited time without the 15 wins, but they do not count toward your three. Once you qualify, Ranked Mode opens and you start with calibration matches.
How many calibration matches are in Deadlock?
Eight. Every player plays 8 calibration matches when they enter Ranked and again at the start of each season. They must be played solo, with no party, and the highest starting rank they can give is Oracle VI. Stronger players climb the rest of the way through regular ranked matches.
Can you play Deadlock ranked with friends?
Yes, but only one friend at a time. Ranked Mode allows solo or duo queues, and duo partners must be at most one full rank apart. Eternus players can only duo with another Eternus player within three subranks. Calibration matches must always be played solo.
When does the Deadlock ranked season end?
As of October 2026, Beta Season 1 ends on November 5, 2026 at 2:00 PM PDT. Valve first set the end for October 7 and then extended it. The next season is planned to begin straight after, and you should expect to play calibration matches again when it does.
How many Rank Points do you get per win in Deadlock?
Around 300 on average since Valve raised it from about 250 in an August 2026 update. The exact amount depends on matchmaking quality, and win streaks add a bonus. You need 1,000 RP for each subrank, and 2,000 RP for the last subrank before a new rank, so a subrank usually takes about three to four net wins.
