Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play 6v6 third-person hero shooter from NetEase Games, made with Marvel Games. Teams mix Vanguard, Duelist and Strategist heroes. You win by beating the map objective: capturing and holding a point, escorting a vehicle to the end, or stopping the enemy from doing so.
What is Marvel Rivals?
Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play team hero shooter from NetEase Games, made with Marvel Games. It launched on December 6, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and reached PlayStation 4 on September 12, 2025. Unlike most hero shooters, it uses a third-person camera, and parts of many maps can be destroyed.
You pick from a large roster of Marvel heroes and villains, 54 characters as of September 2026. They fall into three roles: Vanguards protect the team, Duelists deal damage, and Strategists heal and support. Team-Up abilities give heroes extra powers that grow stronger with the right partners. Season 10 started on September 11, 2026 with Gorr the God Butcher. Season 10.5 runs from October 9 to November 13, 2026 with events but no new hero; Season 11 is due to add one.

What is the objective of Marvel Rivals?
Over a season, players aim to win matches, rank up in Competitive and build proficiency on favourite heroes. Inside one match, the aim is the map objective: hold a point, move a vehicle or score more than the other team. Eliminations help only because they clear enemies off the objective.
Match length depends on the mode and on how evenly matched the teams are. Because there is no role lock, team balance is up to the players. A team with at least a couple of Vanguards and Strategists tends to hold objectives far better than six Duelists.
How do you win a match in Marvel Rivals?
Quick Match and Competitive rotate through the objective modes below. Arcade adds others, including Conquest and Doom Match, plus limited-time event modes.
| Mode | Team size | How you win |
|---|---|---|
| Domination | 6v6 | Capture and hold the point. Win two rounds before the other team does. |
| Convoy | 6v6 | On attack, escort the vehicle to the end of the route before time runs out; on defence, stop it. |
| Convergence | 6v6 | Attackers take a capture point and then push through the remaining checkpoints in time; defenders hold them off. |
| Conquest | 6v6 | Kills score points. First team to 50, or the higher score when time ends, wins. |
| Doom Match | Free-for-all | Everyone fights everyone. Finish in the top half of the scoreboard to get the win. |
In attack and defence modes, both teams normally get a turn on each side. Fights are usually decided by grouping up, timing ultimates together and making use of Team-Ups.
How does ranked or progression work?
Competitive unlocks once your account reaches the level shown on the Competitive tab. Ranks run Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Grandmaster and Celestial, each split into three divisions, then Eternity and One Above All at the very top. Each season starts with placement matches, and higher ranks get hero bans.

Beginner tips to win more
- Fill the gaps. If nobody has picked a Vanguard or Strategist, switch to one. Balanced teams win more.
- Stand on the objective. Points and vehicles only move with bodies on them.
- Use Team-Ups. Check which heroes pair well and pick toward them when you can.
- Look up. Many heroes fly. Keep an eye on the sky and pick a hero who can hit flyers when needed.
- Mind destructible cover. Walls you hide behind can be broken, so do not sit in one spot.
- Combine ultimates. Two ultimates used together often win a fight that one alone would not.
- Learn two or three heroes well. A small, practised pool climbs faster than picking at random.

Marvel Rivals FAQ
Is Marvel Rivals free to play?
Yes. Marvel Rivals is free to play on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, and every hero can be used without paying. NetEase sells cosmetics and a premium battle pass through its paid currency, and battle passes you buy do not expire. Cosmetics do not change how a hero performs, so spending does not give a gameplay advantage in matches.
How many players are on a Marvel Rivals team?
The core modes are 6v6, so each team has six players. There is no forced role queue, which means a team can pick any mix of Vanguards, Duelists and Strategists. Some event and arcade modes use different setups, such as free-for-all Doom Match, but Quick Match and Competitive use teams of six.
How long is a Marvel Rivals match?
There is no fixed match time; it depends on the mode and how close the game is. Domination can end quickly when one team wins the first two rounds, while close Convoy or Convergence games, where both sides take a turn on attack and overtime is triggered, take longer. Arcade modes like Conquest are usually shorter, since they end at a fixed score.
How do you unlock Competitive in Marvel Rivals?
Competitive opens once your account reaches the level requirement shown on the Competitive tab in the game. You level up by playing Quick Match and other modes. After it unlocks, each season starts with placement matches before your rank settles. Our ranks guide covers each tier and how resets work.
What is the best mode for beginners?
Start in Practice Range and then Quick Match. Practice Range lets you try every hero with no pressure, and Quick Match uses the same maps and objectives as Competitive. Arcade modes like Conquest are good for warming up aim, but Quick Match teaches the objective play that actually wins ranked games.
What is the current Marvel Rivals season?
As of October 12, 2026 the game is in Season 10.5, which started on October 9 and is scheduled to run until November 13, 2026. It brings Halloween events and new costumes rather than a new hero. Season 10 began on September 11 with Gorr the God Butcher, and Season 11 is planned to add another new hero.
