Destiny: Rising is a free-to-play mobile shooter RPG from NetEase, licensed by Bungie and released August 28, 2025. You collect Lightbearer characters, raise your power and clear story missions, Strikes, Gauntlets and the six-player Crota's End raid. Winning means clearing each activity, defeating its boss, and growing strong enough for harder content.
What is Destiny: Rising?
Destiny: Rising is a free-to-play mobile shooter RPG developed and published by NetEase Games under licence from Bungie. It launched on August 28, 2025 for iOS and Android in most regions, and you can also play it on Windows or macOS through NetEase's MuMuPlayer emulator. It mixes first- and third-person shooting with looter-shooter progression in a shared online world.
The story takes place in an alternate Destiny timeline set long before the original games, while humanity rebuilds around the city of Haven. Instead of making one Guardian, you collect a roster of Lightbearer characters, each tied to Solar, Arc or Void and each with its own Relic abilities. New characters come mainly through a gacha system.

What is the objective of Destiny: Rising?
Destiny: Rising has no single final victory. The long-term goal is to grow your account: raise your team level and power, build up the characters you use, and collect stronger weapons so you can take on harder content.
A typical session mixes story missions, Strikes and endgame runs. In each activity the objective is set by the encounter: defeat waves of enemies, survive a timer, or take down a boss before your team runs out of revives. Clearing it earns rewards, which push your power up for the next tier of difficulty.
Rewards for some activities are limited by an energy-style system, so steady daily and weekly play usually beats one long session.
How do you win in Destiny: Rising?
Because this is mostly a PvE game, "winning" means clearing an activity. Here is how the main modes we could confirm work as of October 2026.
| Mode | Team size | How you win |
|---|---|---|
| Story campaign | Solo | Finish each mission to move the story on and unlock more of the game |
| Strikes and Master Strikes | Fireteam | Clear the mission and defeat its final boss; Master is the harder tier |
| Gauntlet: Onslaught and Gauntlet: Blitz | Fireteam | Clear a run of linked encounters before you fail |
| Crota's End raid | 6 players | Beat each raid encounter in turn, ending with the final boss |
| Bulwark Ops | Solo or 3-player co-op | Build and upgrade towers to survive up to 30 waves |
| Iron Championship (Season 6) | 3-player squad | Compete in timed sessions during set daily windows |
The game also has PvP activities alongside its PvE, but we have not detailed them here because their formats change between seasons. Check the in-game activity list for what is live.
How does progression work?
Progress comes from team level, character upgrades and gear. The usual path is to finish the campaign, move on to Strikes and Gauntlets, then take on Master Strikes and the Crota's End raid. Seasons add new characters, exotics and activities every few months.
Our Season of Revival guide explains what Season 6 added and how to raise power quickly, and the Crota's End raid guide covers preparation and team roles. Every article is collected in our Destiny: Rising guides hub.
Beginner tips to win more
- Finish the story first. The campaign unlocks activities and teaches the basics of each element.
- Focus your upgrades. Level a small team you actually use instead of spreading materials thin.
- Do capped weekly activities early. They give the best progress for your time each week.
- Bring a support. Healing and revives turn failed runs into clears in Gauntlets and the raid.
- Save big abilities for boss phases. Spending them on small enemies slows the whole team.
- Join a steady fireteam. A regular group learns mechanics faster than random matchmaking.
- Check device and connection. A stable connection matters more than settings in long encounters.

Destiny: Rising FAQ
Is Destiny: Rising free to play?
Yes. Destiny: Rising is free to download and play on iOS and Android. NetEase earns money from a gacha system for new characters, a premium battle pass and other optional purchases. Some critics argue that spending helps power, since duplicate characters make a character stronger, but all main activities can be played without paying.
Is Destiny: Rising the same as Destiny 2?
No. Destiny: Rising is a separate mobile game made by NetEase under licence from Bungie. It is set in an alternate timeline long before the original Destiny, and you play a roster of Lightbearer characters rather than one Guardian. Some familiar content returns in new form, such as the Crota's End raid.
Can you play Destiny: Rising on PC?
Destiny: Rising is built for phones, but NetEase supports playing on Windows and macOS through its MuMuPlayer emulator. Your progress is tied to your account, so you can switch between phone and computer. Many players use the emulator for raids and Gauntlets because of the bigger screen and mouse and keyboard.
What season is Destiny: Rising in?
As of October 2026, Destiny: Rising is in Season 6, Season of Revival, which began after maintenance on September 17, 2026. It added Cassian, a Mythic Solar support, the Skyburner's Oath exotic scout rifle, the Mutated Shield activity and the Iron Championship three-player squad event. Crota's End remains the main raid.
How many players does the Crota's End raid need?
Crota's End needs a fireteam of six players. It is the longest and most mechanical activity in the game, so most groups need a few sessions to learn it. Bring at least one support character, agree on who calls the mechanics, and make sure everyone has upgraded characters before you start a full attempt.
What should a new Destiny: Rising player do first?
Play through the story campaign first, because it unlocks activities and teaches how each element works. Then focus your upgrade materials on a small team you enjoy, do the capped weekly activities each week, and move up to Strikes and Gauntlets. Leave the raid until your power is solid and you have a steady group.
