How do War Thunder tech trees work?
Each nation has separate trees for aircraft, ground vehicles, helicopters and ships, running from Rank I up to Rank VIII. To unlock a vehicle you research it with research points earned in battle, then buy it with Silver Lions. Vehicles also have modules, such as better ammunition or engines, that you research after buying the vehicle.
The latest major update, Sky Odyssey, arrived in September 2026 and added vehicles such as the F-14D, MiG-35 and Hawk T Mk1A, as of October 2026.
How do research points work?

Research points go to the vehicle you have selected for research in that tree, so always check what is queued before a session.
What are the fastest ways to grind research?
- Play the mode that pays best for your skill; a good Realistic match beats a poor Simulator one.
- Use lineups where every vehicle earns points, not one carry vehicle and spares.
- Research modules that make the vehicle stronger before chasing the next one.
- Play in a squad; coordinated teams win more and earn more.
How does the War Thunder battle pass work?
Battle pass seasons run for a few months, with daily and seasonal tasks and reward vehicles. Season 24, Do It Yourself, ends on October 21, 2026, and the next season follows right after. Levels from an old season do not carry over, so finish the rewards you want before it ends. Premium rewards need the premium pass.

How does a War Thunder order work?
Every order follows the same steps, laid out in full on our how it works page:

How long does it take to research a top-tier vehicle?
It depends on your rank, game mode and premium time. Low-rank vehicles take a few battles, while Rank VII and VIII vehicles can take many hours each. Realistic and Simulator battles pay more research points, and premium time adds a large bonus.
Is account sharing allowed in War Thunder?
No. Gaijin's terms, updated on August 18, 2026, say each account is personal and may not be shared with or used by anyone else. That is why we suggest squad sessions and coaching, where you play on your own account the whole time.
Do you sell Silver Lions or Golden Eagles?
