This Division 2 raid guide in short: the game has two eight-player raids, Operation Dark Hours and Operation Iron Horse. You need a level 40 agent, a build with a clear job such as damage, healing or tanking, and a group that follows one caller. Exotic drops are random, so plan for repeat clears.
What do you need before you start a raid?
- Level 40: both raids require a max-level agent, which means owning Warlords of New York for levels 31 to 40.
- A finished build: a complete gear set or brand setup with a clear role.
- Eight players: a full group, ideally with voice chat.
- Time: a first clear can take a whole evening; experienced groups are much faster.
Matchmaking for raids exists on some difficulties, but a steady group is still the most reliable way to clear as of October 2026.
What is Operation Dark Hours like?
Operation Dark Hours was the first raid and is set at an airport. It is known for encounters that split the group, so communication matters as much as damage. Each boss tests a different skill: target priority, positioning and fast damage when a window opens. Most groups learn it one encounter at a time over a few nights.
What is Operation Iron Horse like?
Operation Iron Horse came later and takes place around a steel foundry. It is a little more forgiving for newer groups, which makes it a popular first raid. It still punishes groups that stand in hazards or ignore adds, and its final encounter rewards teams that keep calm when things go wrong.
What roles should your group run?
| Role | Job | Typical build focus |
|---|---|---|
| Damage | Kills bosses and priority targets | Weapon damage and critical hits |
| Healer | Keeps armour up and revives | Skill tier and repair skills |
| Tank | Draws fire and holds positions | Armour and protection |
| Caller | Times phases and assigns jobs | Any role; the clearest voice on comms |
Groups usually run mostly damage with one or two healers, and adjust per encounter.
What causes the most raid wipes?
- No single caller. Eight opinions mid-fight end attempts.
- Unfinished builds. One weak player can stretch every phase.
- Ignoring mechanics for damage. Most bosses kill groups that skip their mechanics.
- Tired groups. Late-night attempts often fail on simple mistakes.
Fix these, and a group that wipes for hours often clears in one good session. Our Red Horizon guide has the current season's context.
What can you get from a raid clear?
Raids drop high-end gear and can drop exotics, but every drop is random. No one can honestly promise a specific exotic from a single clear. You loot every chest and boss drop in your run, and repeat clears give you more chances. Weekly raid rewards also help, so a regular weekly clear pays off over time.
If you are new to raiding, joining an experienced group for your first clear is the quickest way to learn the encounters, because you see each mechanic handled correctly before you have to call it yourself.

The Division 2 FAQ
How many players do Division 2 raids need?
Both raids, Operation Dark Hours and Operation Iron Horse, are built for eight players. The incursions, Paradise Lost and Broken Rain, are four-player activities. A full, steady group with voice chat is the most reliable way to clear raids.
Which Division 2 raid is easier?
Many players find Operation Iron Horse more approachable for a first clear, while Operation Dark Hours is known for encounters that split the group. Both still need finished builds, clear roles and one caller, so preparation matters more than which raid you pick first.
Do I need DLC to raid in The Division 2?
You need a level 40 agent, and levels 31 to 40 come from the Warlords of New York story, which you need to own. After that, both raids are part of the game. The Echoes of Central Park expansion on November 3, 2026 adds new endgame content but is not required for the raids.
Can you guarantee an exotic from a raid?
No. Exotic drops are random. We sell the raid clear itself, and you loot every chest and boss in your run. Anything that drops is yours, and repeat clears give you more chances at the item you want.
Is a self-play raid carry against the rules?
In a self-play carry you stay on your own account and play in our group, so no one else uses your login. Ubisoft's terms ban sharing or lending accounts and name boosting as prohibited, so piloted runs carry more risk than playing with a group.
