The best Apex ranked tips all come back to RP maths: every match charges an entry cost, a top-half finish refunds it, and kills pay more the higher you place. So land safely, rotate early, take fights you can finish, and play for top five. Consistent top-ten finishes climb faster than risky high-kill games.
What is the fastest way to gain RP in Apex ranked?
Stop losing RP before you try to win more. As of October 2026, a Platinum match costs 48 RP to enter and a Diamond match costs 65 (see our Apex Legends ranks guide for every tier). You get that back only if your squad finishes in the top half of the 20-team lobby.
That makes the first goal of every match simple: survive into the top ten. From there, placement RP rises with each squad you outlast, and every kill or assist is worth more the higher you finish. A kill in 18th place is worth very little. The same kill in 3rd place is worth a lot more.
Three bonuses reward consistency, not highlight reels:
- Top-five streak: 10, 20, 30, then 40 RP for back-to-back top-five finishes, and 40 for each one after that until you miss.
- Higher-tier kills: +15% for a player one tier above you, up to +50% for four tiers above.
- Participations: half-kill credit when your team kills someone you didn't damage, so staying with your squad pays.
After eight eliminations in a match, each extra one is worth half. Kill-farming is capped; placement is not.
Should you hot drop in Apex ranked?
Usually not. A hot drop is a coin flip for your whole entry cost. Win it and you are well looted but often low on heals with another squad already rotating to you. Lose it and you pay full price for a two-minute game.
A better habit: pick one quieter landing spot per map and learn it properly. In Season 30, ranked rotates World's Edge, Storm Point and E-District every 4.5 hours. Looting is also slower this season: purple attachments are rarer, gold attachments and gold backpacks are gone, and Arsenals unlock on a timer. Landing where you can loot without a fight matters more than it did last season.
When should you fight and when should you rotate?
Ask one question before you shoot: can we finish this fight before a third squad arrives? If not, you are about to pay for someone else's kills.
- Rotate early. Move toward the next zone as soon as it is revealed. Late rotations mean running through open ground while teams in buildings shoot you.
- Take the high ground or the building, not the open fight. Cover wins more ranked games than aim.
- Third-party with purpose. When two squads fight near you, wait for knocks, then push the weaker one. Kills late in the match pay the most.
- Disengage when it is even. If both teams trade knocks and reset, leaving is often the better RP decision.
- Play edge on big zones, then cut in. Holding the edge limits how many directions you can be shot from.
Which legends are good for ranked in Season 30?
Respawn changed several ranked staples in the Marked update (August 4, 2026), so last season's comfort picks may not be the safest now:
| Legend | Season 30 change | What it means for ranked |
|---|---|---|
| Bloodhound | Reworked and buffed: new ultimate, faster scan, easier tracking | Worth relearning; strong for finding fights you can win and avoiding ones you can't |
| Loba | Buffed: faster tactical, longer throw, 120s ultimate | Helps with this season's slower looting |
| Rampart | Buffed: stronger, faster walls, quicker Sheila | Good for holding buildings in the final rings |
| Valkyrie | Nerfed: weaker tactical, lower ultimate height | Still useful for rotations, but less dominant |
| Seer | Nerfed: key upgrades moved later, less turn slow | Previously dominant; now less automatic |
| Axle | Nerfed: slide boost cut from 5s to 3s | Less forgiving escape tool |
For solo queue, prioritise a legend that helps the team rotate or find information over a pure fragger. A good team needs some way to move (Valkyrie, or a movement legend), some way to scan (Bloodhound or another recon legend), and some way to hold ground. On weapons, Respawn cut damage on the Alternator, RE-45 and R-99, and energy weapons now use a regenerating ammo stockpile, which favours short, decisive fights.
How do you climb in Apex ranked as a solo player?
- Ping everything. Enemy pings, loot pings and "let's go here" pings do most of the talking for you.
- Follow the most sensible player. One person calls the rotation; two people arguing gets the squad killed. If nobody leads, you lead.
- Fill the gap. If the team has no recon or movement legend, pick one even if it isn't your main.
- Stay within support distance. Third-partied solos die first. Being close also earns you participation credit.
- Bank RP when you can. Late in the match, a safe fourth place is often worth more than a risky push for the win.
Respawn also tested a Diamond-and-above solo-queue-only setting in Season 29 and was still reviewing it at the start of Season 30, so check the patch notes if you play at that level.
How do you stop losing RP?
Most players lose more RP to tilt than to bad aim. Set a session rule before you queue, for example: stop after two bottom-half finishes in a row. Our guide to stop tilting has more habits that work.
Use the split reset to your advantage. At the start of Split 2, Silver, Gold and Platinum players get a 250 RP demotion buffer, and Season 30 Split 2 began on September 15, 2026. Your season reward is based on your best rank across both splits, and matching your Split 1 rank in Split 2 animates your badge. Those are good reasons to play steadily through a split rather than in long tilted bursts.
Finally, warm up. Ten minutes in the Firing Range before ranked is cheaper than your first ranked match being the warm-up. Our aim training routine is a good start.
How do you get out of Platinum in Apex?
Platinum is where the entry cost (48 RP) starts to bite and divisions get longer: 750 RP for Plat IV and III, then 1,000 RP for Plat II and I. Players who climbed Gold on kills often stall here because lobbies punish risky fights harder.
The fix is usually the same: fewer early fights, earlier rotations, and holding positions in the final rings. Record a few matches and look for the moment each one was lost. If it is always "we took a fight we didn't need", that's the habit to break. If it is always "we lost the gunfight", it's mechanics, and a coach or a duo session with a better player helps more than more games. Our guide to getting out of elo hell covers being hardstuck in general.
Should you get coaching, a duo partner or a boost?
Tips only work if you can see what you are doing wrong. If you are stuck, here is how the paid options compare at the time of writing:
| Option | Price | You play? | Account risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coaching (high-rank coach) | $25 per hour | Yes, you learn | None |
| VOD review | $15 per match reviewed | Yes | None |
| Play with a pro (duo hours) | From $19 for 1 hour | Yes, on your account | Lower |
| Rank boost, duo | 1.5× piloted, e.g. Plat IV to Diamond IV $72 | Yes, with the booster | Lower |
| Rank boost, piloted | Plat IV to Diamond IV $48 | No | Higher |
All rank boost prices are on the Apex Legends boosting page, and our coaching vs boosting guide explains which suits which player.
Be honest with yourself about risk. EA's rules say never to share your login, and EA treats buying boosts through third parties as against its User Agreement. Piloted boosts carry a real risk of penalties, duo less, coaching none. Read account safety before you order anything piloted.

Is placement or kills better for RP in Apex?
Placement, in most games. A top-half finish refunds your entry cost, placement RP grows as you outlast squads, and kills are multiplied by how high you place. Kills still matter, especially late, but a ten-kill game that ends in 15th often pays less than a quiet top-five finish. Kill value also halves after eight eliminations.
How do I gain RP fast in Apex solo queue?
Play for top ten every game, ping constantly, pick a legend that fills the team gap (movement, recon or defence), stay close to your squad for participation credit, and stop after two bottom-half finishes in a row. Solo players lose most RP to early fights and tilt, not to weak aim.
Is it better to play Apex ranked solo or with a premade squad?
A steady premade trio usually climbs faster, because rotations and fights are agreed instead of argued. Solo players can still climb by pinging, filling the missing role and following the most sensible teammate. Respawn tested a one-tier premade restriction in Season 29 and was still reviewing it at the start of Season 30, so party rules at high ranks may change.
What are the best legends for Apex ranked right now?
As of October 2026, Season 30 buffed Bloodhound, Loba and Rampart and nerfed Valkyrie, Seer and Axle. For solo players, the safest choice is a legend that fills what your team lacks: a way to rotate, a way to scan, or a way to hold a building. Pick legends you can play well over any tier list.
Is it worth playing ranked after the Split 2 reset?
Yes. Your season reward uses your best rank from either split, matching your Split 1 rank in Split 2 animates your badge, and Silver to Platinum players get a 250 RP demotion buffer. Early Split 2 lobbies are also mixed, so steady players often climb quickly in the first weeks.
How long does it take to climb one division in Apex?
It depends on your tier and how consistently you place. Division sizes range from 500 RP in Bronze and Silver to 1,000 RP from Platinum II up, while entry costs rise to 65 RP in Diamond. For our boosters, one Platinum to Diamond division usually takes about one to three days because matches are long and RP gains vary.
