Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is a paid first-person shooter from Treyarch and Raven Software, published by Activision in November 2025. It has a co-op campaign, Zombies and multiplayer. In multiplayer you win by reaching the mode's score target first, such as 100 kills in Team Deathmatch or 250 points in Hardpoint.

What is Call of Duty: Black Ops 7?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is a first-person shooter from Treyarch and Raven Software, published by Activision. It came out on November 14, 2025 on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, and it launched on Xbox Game Pass on day one. It is a paid game; Warzone is Call of Duty's separate free-to-play battle royale.

The game has three parts. The campaign is set in 2035 and can be played solo or in co-op with up to four players, and finishing it opens Endgame, a larger co-op mode with timed objectives. Multiplayer is the fast arena side with 6v6 modes, the larger 20v20 Skirmish and a 4v4 Ranked Play mode. Zombies is the round-based co-op mode for up to four players. Season 6 started on September 17, 2026 with two new 6v6 maps and a Halloween event. Activision's next game, Modern Warfare 4, launches on October 23, 2026, so Season 6 is expected to be the final big Black Ops 7 season.

What is the objective of Black Ops 7?

There is no single win for the whole game. In multiplayer you win matches, level up, unlock weapons and attachments, earn camos and, if you want competition, climb Ranked Play. In Zombies you survive rising rounds and can work through a map's main Easter egg quest. In the campaign you finish the story and then take on Endgame.

Most multiplayer matches are short: Team Deathmatch, for example, has a 10-minute limit. Each mode has its own score target, so the team that plays the objective, not just the one with the most kills, usually wins.

How do you win a match in Black Ops 7?

Here is how the main multiplayer modes are won as of Season 6. Playlists change during a season, so check the in-game list for limited-time modes.

Mode Team size How you win
Team Deathmatch 6v6 First team to 100 kills, or the higher score when the 10-minute timer ends.
Domination 6v6 Capture and hold flags to earn points. First to 200 wins.
Hardpoint 6v6 Hold the rotating zone to score. First to 250 wins.
Kill Confirmed 6v6 Collect enemy dog tags to score. First to 75 wins.
Search & Destroy 6v6 No respawns. Plant or defuse the bomb, or wipe the other team. First to six rounds wins.
Overload 6v6 Carry the device into an enemy zone to score. Teams swap sides at 4 points; first to 8 wins.
Skirmish 20v20 Large objective battles; the team that completes the objectives wins.
Ranked Play 4v4 Hardpoint, Search & Destroy or Overload under Call of Duty League rules.

In Zombies, there is no versus win: you survive as long as you can, and the bigger goal on each map is the main Easter egg quest.

How does ranked or progression work?

Outside ranked, you raise your player level, then Prestige to restart with new rewards, and level each weapon to unlock its attachments. Camo challenges reward skilled play with each gun.

Ranked Play needs 50 wins in matchmade multiplayer. After three placement wins you climb Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Crimson, then Iridescent and the Top 250, by gaining Skill Rating. Ranked uses a restricted weapon and attachment list based on Call of Duty League rules. For full details, read our Black Ops 7 ranked guide and our Black Ops 7 camo grind guide. Beginner tips to win more

  1. Play the objective. Hardpoint, Domination and Overload are won on the objective, not on kills.
  2. Stay near teammates. Trading kills with a teammate nearby wins more gunfights than flanking alone.
  3. Use the minimap. Red dots and objective icons tell you where the next fight will be.
  4. Pick one or two weapons. Levelling a favourite gun unlocks attachments that make it much easier to use.
  5. Aim before you peek. Pre-aim the spot where an enemy will appear rather than turning corners blind.
  6. Reload behind cover. Reloading in the open is a common way to lose a fight you already won.
  7. Practise in Zombies or the campaign. Both are lower-pressure ways to learn weapon feel.

Black Ops 7 FAQ

Is Black Ops 7 free to play?

No. Black Ops 7 is a paid game on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, though it has been included with some Xbox Game Pass plans since launch day. Call of Duty: Warzone is the separate free-to-play battle royale, and it shares seasons and some progression with Black Ops 7, but the full multiplayer, Zombies and campaign need the paid game.

How long is a Black Ops 7 match?

Most 6v6 multiplayer matches are short. Team Deathmatch and Kill Confirmed have a 10-minute timer, and modes like Hardpoint end sooner if a team reaches the score limit. Search and Destroy can run longer because it is played over rounds. Zombies games have no fixed length and last as long as your squad survives.

How do you unlock Ranked Play in Black Ops 7?

You need 50 wins in matchmade multiplayer. Wins in party games and limited-time modes do not count. After it unlocks, you win three placement matches to get your starting rank, then earn Skill Rating for wins. Our Black Ops 7 ranked guide lists every rank, the restrictions and the full rules.

What is the best mode for beginners?

Team Deathmatch and Domination are the easiest starting points because the rules are simple and respawns are quick. They help you learn maps and weapons. Zombies is a good low-pressure option too. Save Search and Destroy and Ranked Play until you are comfortable, since one life per round punishes mistakes.

What season is Black Ops 7 in?

As of October 2026 Black Ops 7 is in Season 6, which began on September 17, 2026. It added the Quantum and Bloodstead maps, new weapons, a Zombies map and a Halloween event. Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026, so this is expected to be the last major Black Ops 7 season.
