Dune: Awakening trainers are five skill paths: Swordmaster, Mentat, Bene Gesserit, Planetologist and Trooper. You unlock each through its trainer's quest chain and spend skill points, one per level, across them. A max-level character at 200 has 199 points, and respecs let you change your build later.
What are the five trainer paths?
| Path | Focus | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Swordmaster | Melee combat and blade skills | Close-range fighters |
| Mentat | Ranged combat and tactical tools | Gunplay and precision |
| Bene Gesserit | Abilities that control and manipulate | Support and control |
| Planetologist | Building, crafting and the environment | Base builders and crafters |
| Trooper | Heavy weapons and explosives | Big damage and area fights |
All five exist as of October 2026, after the September 22 update.
How do you unlock a trainer?
Each trainer has a quest chain. Finishing it unlocks that path's skills. Most players unlock two or three trainers on the way through the story and pick up the rest later. Unlocking early matters because some quest steps get easier with skills from another path.
Trainer quest chains also teach you how each path plays before you commit points to it. Treat them as a free trial: unlock a path, try its early skills, and only then decide whether it deserves a big share of your points. Players who skip this step often respec more than they need to, which costs time.
How should you spend your skill points?
You earn one skill point per level after the first, up to 199 at level 200. A focused plan beats spreading points everywhere:
- Pick a main combat path. Swordmaster, Mentat or Trooper for your fighting style.
- Add a utility path. Planetologist for building or Bene Gesserit for control.
- Fill gaps late. Use leftover points for survival and quality-of-life skills.
Because respecs are possible, early mistakes are not permanent.
What makes a good build for the endgame?
The endgame Testing Stations each end in a boss, and the Deep Desert rewards characters that can both fight and survive. A build that mixes strong damage with enough mobility and healing tends to do well. Groups often split roles, with one Planetologist handling bases and crafting while others focus on combat paths. Our Dune: Awakening 2026 guide covers the wider endgame.
Gear matters as much as points at the top end. The Augment Station that arrived with the September update lets you push gear to tier 6, and a well-geared character with an average build often beats a perfect build in weak gear. Plan your skill points and your gear upgrades together, and test changes against a Testing Station boss before you take them into the Deep Desert.
How do you reach 200 faster?
- Follow the main story; it gives steady experience and unlocks trainers.
- Do trainer quest chains as they open.
- Clear Testing Stations with a group once you are ready.
- Use the single-player sliders if you play solo and want faster progress.
Experience slows as you approach the cap, so most players finish the last stretch while working on endgame goals rather than grinding levels alone.
If you play on PS5 or Xbox, remember that Steam and PlayStation characters do not cross-play, so pick the platform your friends use before investing a long climb to 200.

Dune Awakening FAQ
How many trainers are in Dune: Awakening?
There are five trainer paths: Swordmaster, Mentat, Bene Gesserit, Planetologist and Trooper. Each one is unlocked through its trainer's quest chain and gives access to a different set of skills.
How many skill points do you get in Dune: Awakening?
You get one skill point per level after the first, so a level 200 character has 199 points to spend across trainer paths. You can respec later to change your build.
Which trainer is best in Dune: Awakening?
There is no single best path. Choose a combat path that fits your style, such as Swordmaster for melee or Mentat for ranged, then add a utility path like Planetologist or Bene Gesserit. Groups often mix paths so each player covers a role.
Can you change your trainer build later?
Yes. Respecs let you reset and spend your skill points again, so early choices are not permanent. That makes it easy to try a different combat path once you reach the cap.
Can someone unlock trainers for me?
Trainer unlocks can be done on your account by another player, which means sharing your login. Funcom's EULA bans sharing accounts and playing on another person's account to boost level, so self-play help and coaching carry less risk. We never sell Solari, spice or gear.
